Stars and Wishes

My two biggest "stars" of this year, and my biggest accomplishments are:

1. Getting SECOND PLACE overall in the **** Academy debate, when it was only my second debate ever. I was really proud, and thought I debated really well.

2. Winning a gold medal in the Douglas Campbell Speaking Competition Impromptu category. It was my first time doing impromptu speaking, and I was really surprised that I did so well, I scored all 95s and up in my first round.

My wish for the year is to continue to excel in debate, and score first as best individual debater by the end of the year.

Archery: A Brief History

The earliest bows and arrows were created some 64 000 years ago, in the late Paleolithic – early Mesolithic Stone Age period. Early arrow heads were found in South Africa, although archery was a worldwide phenomenon. The bow and arrow was used in Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, central Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent, to name a few places. Archery was used in both combat, and as a source of food through hunting. Archery and the bow and arrow is still used today, both as sport, a source of food, and in war.

All About Me

World famous musician? Best bassist in the world? Not yet, but that’s what
Katherine ******* aspires to be in the future. She regards being a musician not
as a hobby, but as a lifestyle. Her favourite instrument is the electric bass, which
she has only played for a year but is already at a 3rd year level. She has the most
instruction in playing jazz, but has also learned about playing punk, her favourite
genre to play. In addition to playing bass, she also plays clarinet and guitar.
Katherine is very proud of her quick advancement in playing bass, and that she
has near perfect pitch after years of ear training.

When Katherine isn’t playing music, she loves to listen to it. Her iTunes library
has near 2100 songs, and she adds more almost every day. Her favourite genre
is punk rock, but she also loves pop punk. Some of her favourite bands include
Green Day, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, and Hedley. On almost a complete
opposite note, she loves Korean Pop music. Her friends got her into it in Grade
7, and she absolutely loves it! Her favourite groups are BIGBANG and Super
Junior.

In school, Katherine’s favourite subjects are Band and ELA. Her best subject is
geography in Social Studies, and one of her proudest achievements was winning
her elementary school’s HSBC geography challenge. She loves ELA class
because she loves to write, her favourite genres to write being horror, fantasy,
and action/adventure. She’ll write anything, though, as long as it’s not poetry.

Katherine’s friends are very important to her; some of her friends she’s known
since she was three or four, and she’s still friends with them. Some of her friends
she’s only known since this summer, but she acts like she’s known them for
years. She has a group of close girl friends (to name a few: Andrea, Katherine,
Jenna, Alice, Ann, Josellee, Chelsea, Sara, Vicky, Kelly, Gemmie, Ayesha,
and Shannon), some of which she goes to school which and some of which
she doesn’t. She also has her group of guy friends, which never cease to make
her laugh (Alex, Young, Mengjie, Michael, Yoonsik, Frank, Joseph, Christian,
Ryan, Oliver, and Conally to name some). She thinks her friends are some of the
coolest people on Earth, and they are! But how could you talk about Katherine’s
friends and not mention her best friend, Riley? Katherine and Riley are best
friends, brought together by their love of K-pop, their oddly similar minds, and
their overall randomness.

And that is the story of the odd, unique, creative, and all around random
Katherine.
