Archery: A Brief History

The earliest bows and arrows were created some 64 000 years ago, in the late Paleolithic – early Mesolithic Stone Age period. Early arrow heads were found in South Africa, although archery was a worldwide phenomenon. The bow and arrow was used in Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, central Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent, to name a few places. Archery was used in both combat, and as a source of food through hunting. Archery and the bow and arrow is still used today, both as sport, a source of food, and in war.
